When Thurgood Marshall was a boy, Maryland was segregated. Laws kept him, his father Mr. William Marshall, and other African Americans separate from whites. After law school, Thurgood Marshall fought for equal rights. He won a famous case for a third-grader named Linda Brown. Thurgood argued that she had a right to go to a nearby all-white school instead of a distant all-black school. In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson made him Justice Marshall of the U.S Supreme Court.
